Therapeutic Program
Small Group Counseling
We all need to function appropriately in society. The Woodhouse program builds interpersonal skills in parallel with academics.
At Woodhouse your child participates in small-group counseling sessions at least once a week. These sessions are run by our social worker in collaboration with each student’s therapist and psychiatrist. We draw from cognitive and behavioral theories and therapeutic approaches such as:
- Behaviorism/Mindfulness
- Collaborative Problem-Solving (CPS)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Ecological Theory
- Strengths Perspective
We also address development in:
- Social Skills
- Self-Advocacy
- Executive Functioning Skills
- Emotional Regulation
- Bracketing
In addition, our school social worker is on campus full time and is available to your child throughout the school day.
Community
Woodhouse creates a genuine sense of community where everyone is there for each another. Your child will feel safe, secure and nurtured as we all work together on both an individual and school-wide basis. This helps alleviate the issues that have previously prevented your child from successfully moving forward:
- Students and staff address each other on a first name basis
- Continuous student/staff interaction between classes and lunch
- Staff facilitates students who need greater assistance interacting
- Class trips offsite into the community to places of interest
- Weekly community seminars to share thoughts, appreciations, and acknowledgements
